Leeds International Summer School 2023: Student Experience Blog by Simone Hui

Say yes to Summer School! Say yes to LISS!

Hi everyone! I’m Simone, a student from Hong Kong Baptist University. Are you browsing information on a trip to the UK or struggling with what to do in the summer of 2024? Read this and let me persuade you why you should apply for LISS!

You Only Live Once🤘🏻

I attended the Leeds International Summer School in July 2023, and not gonna lie, it is one of the best decisions I have ever made. I did have a lot of concerns before applying but remember don’t let your fear limit you from exploring the world. Don’t worry too much because everyone else was just the same, being nervous and stepping out into an unfamiliar zone. COVID is over, now hurry up and come to meet new friends and learn amazing cultures!

(I was a solo traveller but a day later I met a bunch of new friends from Singapore, India, Canada and Mexico. Don’t be shy and reach out to different people. That was us in a social event).

It is a world-renowned university! 🌎

Ranking 75th globally in QS University Rankings, the University of Leeds is definitely one of the spectacular institutes with great academic excellence! Joining LISS not only connects you to scholars in your expertise but also links you to worldwide achievers. Who knows whether your flatmate or groupmate becomes the next Elon Musk? In addition, LISS provides a wide variety of courses, whether you have a related major or not, you will still be able to get a taste of your interested fields. From photography, business, science, history to even philosophy, I am sure LISS has everything you want. I am a social work student but that was me attending ‘entrepreneurship and society: ideas, opportunities and value creation’(left) and ‘reparations for historical injustices’ (right).

Geographical convenience 🗺

Located in the center of England, almost the central part of the UK, in simpler terms, it is easy for you and your buddies to reach other regions during weekends. Manchester, Liverpool, London, and even Edinburgh in Scotland, etc are accessible by both train and overnight coach. Amongst different corners across the UK, Leeds has a more favorable location.

(Me and my buddies going to Edinburgh on the third weeks of LISS).

More than you can imagine 🫵🏻

My time in Leeds was wonderful and has been a memorable experience. The LISS team never disappoints, they organize a wide range of social activities e.g. Kpop dancing, detective games, pub quiz, jazz night, and more importantly, visits and excursions to other great spots! Going 140m underground in the National Coal Mining Museum, enjoying seafood in York and traditional afternoon tea at Betty’s Tea Rooms in Ilkley, such enjoyment is all beyond your imagination until you experience it.

Don’t hesitate and say yes to LISS! A quick tip: Submit your LISS application by 1 April 2024 to receive an early discount!
